Volunteer Drivers Needed

We are struggling to keep up with the demand for emergency food parcels and food for our services in terms of collection & delivery.

We can work around your schedule, most collections are very flexible and are in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Emergency food parcels are as and when they are needed - however, we give hours of notice.

Our volunteers communicate via WhatsApp, please download WhatsApp on your phone to be a volunteer. All information on collection times and days will be posted in the group chat

We do require food hygiene training and a DBS, however, we can provide this if you don’t have them.

We are in desperate need of some more helping hands, you can claim mileage back after every collection and delivery

Feel free to call, email, or message our Facebook to arrange an in-person chat or for more information

Chatty Café Launch

On 8th June 2023, The Social Action Hub held our Chatty Café Launch day! This was an introductory day to our reoccurring Chatty Café mornings, that are held on Thursdays 10am-2pm during term time for an entry fee of £1. The day consisted of free juice, teas & coffees, pastries & fruits as well as amazing local small business stalls selling their products to the lovely people that attended the launch day! Such as: Makers and Menders - wood, textiles & repairs, The Beauty Box - Mobile Beauty Business, Simply Sweetz & Resin Creations - Sweets and resin, Fashion Jewellery Gems N Jewels - Jewellery, Wax Melts & Hand Sewn Items, and more!

Walk & Talk

On the 7th April our Walk and Talk turned out great!

Thank you to everyone who attended, we all had a brilliant time in the sunshine even if it was slightly muddy - The pups loved it!

Afterward, we then had a well-deserved rest at The Lurcher pub.

Community Litter Pick

On the 1st of April, we encouraged the local community to join us on the Community Litter Pick. We managed to fill an astonishing 30 bags!

Thanks so much to everyone who came to volunteer at the litter pick today!! We hope you enjoyed your breakfast cobs, teas, and coffees afterwards.

Counselling Sessions

The Social Action Hub is offering FREE counselling sessions on Thursday evenings & Saturday mornings delivered by Paul Ainger.

Anyone can refer, our main focus is on targeting men’s mental health, however everyone is welcome to book for counselling sessions.

Often counselling can give you the space to safely explore confusion, pain, anger, sadness and connect to the powerful feelings that can arise following abuse, oppression, trauma or bereavement. Or it can simply help you get to know yourself better. It’s all about finding the right therapeutic relationship that helps you feel safe enough to explore yourself and your world.

Would you like a check-in with a qualified counsellor?

British Sign Language Course

This July, Sue Birkin from Proud Hands BSL presented our first-ever British Sign Language Course. The Course was aimed at adult beginners who had no previous experience. The course is an entry-level 1, including learning finger spellings, greetings, numbers, colours, and animals.

This course was spread over 4 weeks and is due to end on the 24th July.

Volunteer Week

This month we celebrated volunteer week! We have 19 volunteers who help us weekly through various roles around The Social Action Hub. Including The Chatty Café, The Social Supermarket, and Playscheme/Youth Club. Without their help, we would not be able to run these projects! We are very grateful for all that you do, Thank you!

Special thanks to:

Sam Reavley

Sam has recently raised money for The Social Action Hub by walking the peak district marathon. We are so grateful for all the hard work and time Sam has put into the marathon and thinking about The Social Action Hub whilst doing this. Thank you again, Sam!

The Venue - Potters

The Venue has helped us raise money by including The Social Action Hub in their very busy Darts and Dominoes games night. Over a series of weeks, The Venue helped us raise money to go towards Emergency Food Parcels and food provision. We really appreciate everyone’s support and contributions to the multiple fundraising events over the last few weeks.

The Lurcher Pub

The Lurcher was involved in helping us raise funds for The Social Action Hub by running a General Knowledge quiz as well as sticky 13s. It was a very successful event and we can't thank The Lurcher enough for running this. All money that has been raised will go towards emergency food parcels and food provision.

Staff & Volunteers

Claire Penny, CEO was invited to attend a Royal Garden Party in May, in recognition of 30 years community and voluntary service. Claire attended the garden party with her dad and had a lovely day celebrating with other community focused people who have made a significant contribution to society. Claire said ' It's a real honour to have been nominated and chosen to attend such an amazing day. It's a privilege to serve my community and to have made a real difference to people's lives over the past 30 years and I'm extremely grateful to have had this opportunity to have the work I do recognised'.

Claire was also elected as a District Councillor for Newark and Sherwood, representing Rainworth and Rufford Ward in May's local elections. Claire said " I'm so proud to have the support of the local community and that I'm able to do more good work in the community as a District Councillor. It came as a shock to be voted in, and I've already learned a lot about how the council works and I take this responsibility very seriously. I'll be supporting a day of action in Rainworth on the 13th July where NSDC and local volunteers will be street cleaning, tidying up areas of the village, addressing parking issues, unsightly gardens and antisocial behaviour."
