At Social Action Hub, we bring people together to make a real difference in our community. We support vulnerable adults, families, and children by tackling issues like food poverty and mental health, helping everyone feel safe, supported, and valued. Our projects help reduce isolation, promote mental wellbeing, and empower individuals to develop new skills and take on fresh opportunities.

About Us

Our Vision

Our Mission

The Social Action Hub's aims to create and inspire community action that addresses topical social, economic and environmental concerns in three ways:

  • Providing high quality facilities and human resources that empower & support individuals of all ages to learn, develop & contribute to society.

  • Creating and delivering targeted projects and services that meet the needs of our community.

  • Fundraising and partnership work with local good causes to make a bigger impact, maximise funding and increase opportunities for the most vulnerable and marginalised in our community.

Find out more about how our mission is brought to life by viewing our Projects and Services section.

Our Journey

1

How It Started: 1993

In 1993, local youth club committees in Blidworth and Rainworth noticed the changing needs of young people and the increasing social and economic issues that arose after the closure of local pits. Concerned with the lack of opportunities and disillusioned local young people we launched a detached youth project to offer face-to-face support for those not engaging with traditional services. Over time, our work expanded across North Nottinghamshire, reaching more young people and changing lives.

2019

In 2019, we became the Social Action Hub to better reflect the wide range of services we provide, including play-schemes, youth clubs, food-sharing initiatives, employability support, tackling isolation, reducing food waste, conserving natural spaces, and offering guidance, training, volunteering opportunities, and health and wellbeing support.

Where are we now?

Fast forward 30+ years later and we're expanding to a new location. Hopefully with your donations and support our new Social Supermarket looks to open its doors in Summer 2025 where we will be able to reach even more beneficiaries and keep supporting our community! Watch this space for updates!

In other news - We continue to grow and make a real difference in the community. We’re proud to support more people than ever through our expanded services, including youth engagement, brand new Forest School, food-sharing schemes, and employability support.

Why Our Community Needs Us

We provide a safe space for vulnerable people, children, and young people in Blidworth, Rainworth, and nearby villages. With access to free food, one-to-one mentoring, homework help, youth activities, skills training, and personal development opportunities, we help our locals grow and thrive.

For over 25 years, we’ve empowered local people to create projects and fundraisers that make a lasting impact, helping to build a stronger, more connected community.

SAH's 15 minutes...

In April 2025, we featured on BBC East Midlands, who were reporting on the affects of benefit cuts in our local community. They came to visit The Social Action Hub and focused on The Social Supermarket’s support of families and individuals.

Watch here if you missed it 😊

Our CEO

Over 30 years of commitment to the cause, our CEO Claire Penny has helped our charity to become nationally recognised. In May 2023 and May 2025 Claire was invited by the Lord Lieutenant to attend the Kings Garden Party to commend her commitment of 30 years to the education, skills and voluntary sectors and for creating a lasting impact for children, young people and vulnerable adults.
