Many of you know The Social Action Hub as it is now, but in celebration of our 30th Birthday, every day this week we would like to share with you some information on our humble beginnings, and our journey to become who we are today

We were established in 1993, following discussions through the Rainworth and Blidworth Youth Forum and Nottinghamshire County Council Youth Service, in response to the high level of deprivation and disaffection of young people caused by the pits closing. The charity was originally named the Detached Youth Project and focused on street-based outreach work with young people with the aim of:

-Preventing anti-social behaviour -Moving young people into positive opportunities -Supporting young people to make positive life choices

In 2011 we took over the Rainworth Youth and Community Centre and began running Centre based provision; Playscheme, Youth Club and offering Apprenticeships in Youth Work, IAG and Community Development, Study Programmes, Community Learning, Social Action, and Volunteering opportunities

In 2019 we changed our name to the Social Action Hub as it better reflected the aims and objectives of the charity. We have always been focused on supporting our community and young people through empowerment and community-based projects

Now in 2023 we strive to improve and develop our projects and services to reach a wider audience and be accessible to all

The overall aim of the chatty cafe is to reduce isolation & loneliness in the community.
