What We Do
Advocating Change, Supporting the Vulnerable, Empowering Community Action
The Social Action Hub brings people together by organising social action projects and delivering services that make a difference to our local community. We meet the needs of the local community and provide a wide range of services to vulnerable adults, families and children;
- with learning difficulties or disabilities
- experiencing loneliness and isolation or mental health issues
- experiencing financial hardship & food poverty
- relationship difficulties with friends or family
- looking for work, further education or training and volunteering
- support and advocacy to access other support services
The Social Action Hub creates and inspires community action that addresses social concerns of our time, for our local communities and supports the development of these activities in three ways:
Empowering & supporting individuals of all ages to learn, develop, grow and contribute to society
Addressing social and environmental issues that affect our communities
Fundraising and partnership working with local good causes to make a bigger impact
The charity was formed in 1993, in response the social and economic issues that arose after the closing of local pits. The Social Action Hub has evolved, and continues to evolve its services and projects to meet community needs.

PREVENTING FOOD POVERTY, TACKLING FOOD WASTE
The Social Action Hub is the largest food poverty and food waste project in North Nottinghamshire.
Surplus food is donated by the Co-op, Fareshare, Neighbourly, Tesco's Asda, Greggs, Aldi, Lidl, small local retailers and local individuals.
Our amazing team of over 20 volunteers collect and distribute that food from over 70 store pick ups to vulnerable and isolated individuals living in Rainworth, Blidworth and surrounding areas.
We also make sure that nothing is wasted by making sure that fresh bread, vegetables and fruit that is past its best goes to local farms, allotments and animal shelters.
COVID 19 Update
We have provided over 30,000 meals in the form of food parcels to local people.
In November 2020 we launched our Social Supermarket. See below for details.
