What We Do
Advocating Change, Supporting the Vulnerable, Empowering Community Action
The Social Action Hub empowers communities by bringing people together and organising social action projects that make a difference to our local communities
. The charity was formed in 1993, in response the social and economic issues that arose after the closing of local pits. The Social Action Hub has evolved to meet the needs of the local community and provides a wide range of services to vulnerable adults, families and children;
- with learning difficulties or disabilities
- experiencing loneliness and isolation or mental health issues
- experiencing financial hardship & food poverty
- relationship difficulties with friends or family
- looking for work, further education or training and volunteering
- support to access other support services
The Social Action Hub creates and inspires community action that addresses social concerns of our time, for our local communities and supports the development of these activities in three ways:
Empowering & supporting individuals of all ages to learn, develop and grow
Addressing social and environmental issues that affect our communities
Fundraising and partnership working with local good causes to make a bigger impact
How Do We Do It ?
PREVENTING FOOD POVERTY, TACKLING FOOD WASTE
The Social Action Hub is the largest food poverty and food waste project in North Nottinghamshire.
Surplus food is donated by the Co-op, Tesco's Asda, Greggs, small local shops and individuals.
Our amazing team of volunteers distribute that food to vulnerable and isolated individuals living in Rainworth, Blidworth and surrounding areas.
We also make sure that nothing is wasted by making sure that fresh bread, vegetables and fruit that is past its best goes to local farms, allotments and animal shelters.
COVID 19 Update
We have delivered over 5,000 meals in the form of food parcels to local people.
Our befriending service has supported 96 individuals since March with everything from collecting shopping and medication to regular calls to check people are ok, to dog walking and taking people to their medical appointments.
